Go Read

By: Annette Camp

Another piece of blackout poetry from The New Yorker May 8, 2017 magazine

Every home everywhere
kids love adventures.

Quiet here, boys.
Look.
Dream.
Go read books.

Open.
Read.
Laugh in solitude.
Connect.

Sometimes people
were writing
interesting
endeavors.

Fresh remarkable
things: hope,
love, trust,
affection.

Companionship.
Pleasure.
Comfort.
Friendship.

Reunitied

By: Annette Camp

Another piece of blackout poetry from The New Yorker magazine:

May 8, 2017.

A girlfriend.
A rose.
The quiet
surrounding
both.

Determined
to listen
until the
reach of
darkness.

Tears
exchanged.
Lovers
shared
promises,
close
bodies,
history of
romances.

Reunited
to love.
Epic
morning
song.

And soon
after,
life felt
easy to
sing to
the music
every
year.

Trippin' with Thor: Cross-Country

In honor of the dogs I recently lost, this is the story of the 2021 cross-country trip in our campervan named Thor. We used to enjoy grand outings together.

April 17, 2021: Day 1

Thor on a road near horses in Kansas

This is Thor.

This is the horses.

…and to end the day:

Magnetic poetry

April 18, 2021: Day 2 in Oklahoma

 Me, Bumblebee and Poetry

Check it out.

This is the poet.

This is the poetry.

April 19, 2021: Day 3 in Oklahoma City

 Oklahoma City Bombing Anniversary

The bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995 was the deadliest act of homegrown terrorism in U.S. history. You can read about it here: https://www.fbi.gov/history/famous-cases/oklahoma-city-bombing

If you ever get to visit, there are no words.

I tried to capture a small fracture of what I experienced being there.

April 20, 2021: Day 4 in Louisiana

Family First

Sharing moments with loved ones. Priceless!

And, of course, poetry.

April 21, 2021: Day 5 in Louisiana

 Family Fun

We downloaded this Scavenger Hunt Phone App.

Here’s a couple of the photos.

And to close out the night - poetry.

April 22, 2021: Day 6 in Louisiana

Family Fun comes to a close

Until I see you again, you will remain in my heart.

Along with poetry.

April 23, 2021: Day 7 in Mississippi

Let’s not forget our travel companion

Here’s Thor.

And poetry pieces.

April 24, 2021: Day 8 in Alabama

On the Road Again

Met up with more family.

And ended the night with some poetry.

April 25, 2021: Day 9 in Alabama

Whicker Wedding

Happily officiated the wedding of my best friend.

In closing, I’d like to say…

April 26, 2021: Day 10 in Tennessee

Spent the day on the road

There was one brief stop.

As usual, the night ended with poetry.

April 27, 2021: Day 11 in Nashville

A little drive around my old stomping ground

Here’s the sea serpent I hung out on as a teenager in VCAP.

Brings back memories.

Let the good times roll…

April 28, 2021: Day 12 in Nashville

A picture is worth a thousand words

I'm just going to leave that there.

April 29, 2021: Day 13 in Missouri

One of the many National Parks visited

It was a very windy but beautiful day.

Too tired for poetry…

April 30, 2021: Day 14 in Missouri

 Sunken treasures found

The recovery of the sunken 1856 Steamboat Arabia took nearly four months. I was amazed at all the treasures they uncovered - European dishware, bottles of food, buttons, rustic guns, tailor-made clothing, countless numbers of hardware and tools, as well as and sewing supplies and 4,000 hand-crafted leather boots and shoes. Check out the story: https://youtu.be/OVqIvzrOqP8

Poetic words escape me…

thanks for walking down memory lane with me.
