Trippin' with Thor: Trip 6

My wife and I took our sixth adventure in our camper van named Thor back in the beginning of October of 2020 - Destination St. Vrain State Park in Longmont, Colorado! We got this backpack from the library, which allowed us a free entry pass. How cool is that?

Day 1: Roaming the roads

First adventure stop - Kanemoto Park

This was definitely a must see site for anyone headed to Longmont. I couldn't believe such a beautiful building was right here in Colorado in our neck of the woods.

Second adventure stop - Tables to Teacups (Indoor Flea Market)

What is a trip without a little shopping? I love flea markets and thrift stores. You can find such interesting and unique treasures. I can't believe that I found a Hard Rock Café jacket from Amsterdam. Look at what else I found...

Third adventure stop - Cheese Importers

Being a cheesehead owner of the Green Bay Packers, I had to head to the cheese heaven of Longmont. Having just gotten my jacket, I had to browse the area of cheeses from Holland of course. I love this place! Before COVID-19, you used to be able to sample the cheeses.

Final adventure stop - St. Vrain State Park

We made it to our destination just in time to enjoy the sun and scenery.

Day 2: Roaming the roads

Adventure stop - Robin Chocolates

Must have chocolate, but not just any chocolate. Robin chocolates is mouth-watering Artisan chocolate because chocolate is essential! 

Thor has brought so much love into our world. Now we can share more quality time with love ones, including our very much loved dogs. Sometimes, adventures are just outside your neighborhood. See you on our next adventure to home sweet home Alabama. Bye for now...

Trippin' with Thor: Trip 5

My wife and I took our fifth adventure in our camper van named Thor back in late September of 2020. You have got to see the photos from this trip!

Day 1: Roaming the roads

First adventure stop - Paint Mines

This is a definite must hike area through geological formations made of sandstone.

Second adventure stop - Ghost Town Wild West Museum 

The museum had all kinds of really cool artifacts. In one of the photos below, you will see the famous horse-drawn vehicle - a Concord Stagecoach. This historic coach first ran between Denver and Cheyenne in 1868 then to gold mining camps for the next 40 years. It was pulled by 6 to 4 horses and carried 11 passengers plus the driver and guard. In that same photo is the first model of Cadillac from 1903 with one cylinder and a one-eyed carbide headlight.

Day 2: Roaming the roads

First adventure - Drive to Cripple Creek 

This drive was absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend it in the fall to see all the leaves changing colors. It will leave you with a feeling of awe. 

Second adventure stop - Outlaws and Lawmen Jail Museum 

This was one of the coolest places to see historical information about outlaws and lawmen in the Wild West. Lots to look at and information to take in. There are many photos and stories of criminals to read about. Did you know that the first known photograph of a person is said to have been taken by Louis Daguerre in 1838 or 1839? In the late 1870s, a clerk in Paris named Alphonse Bertillon invented the mugshot as we know it - a pair of photographs taken with a standardized pose and angle (one front, one profile shot). These photographs were to be attached to an identification card that would also record data such as the left pinky finger, eye color, hair color, skin color, build and identifying marks. The widespread use of photography to record the faces of criminals, however, didn't catch on until the 1880s. This was due in part to the high cost and complexity of photography at the time. 

We love THOR so much. Each adventure brings a smile to our face when we look back on the photos and recall the great memories. We highly recommend getting out and exploring the great lands and sights of the United States of America. Until I write again, bye for now...

Trippin' with Thor: Trip 4

For this trip, my affirmation word is JOY! My wife and I took our fourth adventure in our camper van named Thor. Due to the fires in Colorado, we started this visualizing a beautiful destination with Fall colors, and we weren't disappointed. Where to this time? Wyoming! Did you know that the speed limit is 80 mph on the highway there...vroom vroom!

Day 1: Roaming the roads

First adventure stop - Camp Douglas (WWII POW Camp)

You would not imagine what would be behind the doors of this historic site. I was amazed at the history I discovered about this WWII POW Camp. If you ever decide to venture to this part of Wyoming, this is a must see.

Second adventure stop - Douglas Railroad Museum 

It was so cool to step back in time. We were able to go in an old caboose and a sleeping car built in 1950. This wasn't some "Don't Touch" exhibit. You got to "feel" what is was like in the train. The museum was just as amazing with its memorabilia.

Third adventure stop - Fort Caspar 

I can not explain my excitement at seeing this fort, the living quarters 1862 structure, as well as the barracks and mess hall built by the U.S. Army. You can even see the telegraph office used between 1862 - 1864.

Fourth adventure stop - War Birds Museum 

When we headed here, we never imagined a real-life airport museum. If you wanted to, they would even fly you around in one of the small passenger planes. I stuck with the stand up, stick your head in pilot replica.

Day 2: Roaming the roads

First adventure stop - Fort Phil Kearny

Although there is nothing left of the original structures, this fort has one of the most interesting histories of all the forts that I have seen thus far. From the film shown telling the history to the huge area outlining this fort, it is a BIG story. One that you will not want to miss, despite the misspelling on the stone. LOL!

Second adventure stop - Scenic US Highway 16

What a beautiful drive. These photos do not begin to give it justice. I would've drove out here just for the views. It was absolutely breath-taking.
